About the Project
WEM Water was engaged to deliver the complete water and sewerage infrastructure for Halcyon, creating a fully integrated network designed to support both the immediate needs of the community and its future performance.
Delivered through WEM Water's specialised water infrastructure expertise, the project reflects our ability to provide end-to-end, compliant and future-ready water solutions within complex, highly coordinated environments.
Delivering a Fully Integrated Water Network
WEM Water delivered all potable, recycled and wastewater infrastructure required to service the precinct, ensuring seamless functionality across a compact, high-density lifestyle community.
Key components included:
– 1.7km of wastewater mains
– 2.5km of water mains (potable and recycled)
– 250+ water services, including irrigation connections
– 130+ wastewater property connection points
– Delivery of gravity sewer, pressure sewer, potable and recycled water systems
Within a strata-based environment, the network was designed to balance efficiency, compliance and long-term accessibility within a complex structure, ensuring all services integrated in-line with Sydney Water and Altogether Group requirements and future maintenance needs.
Precision Engineering in a Constrained Environment
A defining component of the project was the installation of large pressure sewer units (PSUs), with tanks reaching capacities of up to 13,000 litres. These units formed a critical junction within the network, requiring both gravity and pressure sewer systems to connect into separate fixed points demanding precise alignment and level control.
Given the sheer size of the PSUs and the long lead times, installation required meticulous planning and excellence in execution. Each unit was set within a concrete ballast structure to prevent movement or flotation, meaning positioning had to be exact prior to placement, with no margin for error once installed.
This complexity was further compounded by challenging ground conditions and depth of sewer, requiring the use of shoring boxes to ensure safe and stable excavation during installation.
Working within tight service corridors added another layer of difficulty, with multiple utilities needing to be installed while maintaining strict separation distances in accordance with Sydney Water and Altogether Group’s community requirements.
With varying authority standards and inspection requirements across stakeholders, success relied on clear communication and precise coordination, ensuring every element of the system was delivered safely and to exact specification.
Coordinating Complexity Across Stakeholders
The success of the project relied on close collaboration between multiple stakeholders, including:
– Sydney Water
– Altogether Group / RARI (Water Servicing Coordinator)
– WEM Civil
– Multiple on-site contractors
Working within a highly regulated environment, WEM Water maintained continuous communication across all parties to ensure compliance, alignment and efficiency throughout delivery.
Independent inspection processes, including WSC and Sydney Water oversight, added an additional layer of quality assurance, requiring clear coordination, timely communication and disciplined execution at every stage.
Staged Delivery for Success
To support broader construction timelines across the precinct, WEM Water implemented a carefully staged and sequenced delivery approach.
This included:
– Strategic planning of service layouts to ensure compliance from the outset
– Coordinated scheduling with civil and construction teams
– Clear communication of timelines and inspection requirements
– Sequenced construction efforts to allow for early handovers to other construction partners
This structured approach allowed the project to maintain momentum, supporting broader construction efficiency for the client.
Building the Foundations for Community Living
The result is a robust, future-ready water and sewerage network that underpins the functionality of the Halcyon Lifestyle Community at The Gables.
By combining precision in engineering, collaborative delivery and an unwavering commitment to excellence in delivery, WEM Water has created a system designed not only to perform but to support the everyday lives of residents at Halcyon well into the future.
