Rutherford Avenue Reserve

About the Project

Rutherford Avenue Reserve, Kellyville, required extensive bulk earthworks, irrigation systems, turfing, concrete works, and landscaping, including native planting and a pedestrian bridge. The project delivered cycleways, footpaths and open space comprising a large grassed area for informal activities and picnics, a dog park and all-age playground with shade sails, seating and park shelter for local families and residents to enjoy.

Key project requirements included importation of 8,000m³ of VENM material and 2,500m³ of selected imported organic topsoil,  planting of an additional 120 trees, and installation of 5,000m² Village Green Kikuyu, 11,000m² Kikuyu sprigging at a rate of 10%, and instantiation of 12,000 tube stocks and 2,500m² of garden beds.

Sprigging challenges required temporary irrigation to be installed to maintain moisture in the turf to promote growth and coverage. Located adjacent to existing residents, site activities, including deliveries, were also strictly managed to minimise disruption. Through consistent communication with local residents WEM were able to ensure Client and community relations were maintained.

Careful staging, coupled with established safety systems and risk assessments, enabled the existing playground to remain operational for 25 weeks of the 28-week construction program. Effective dust management and relocating construction activities away from the park when in use ensured community access and safety. WEM worked collaboratively with the local community to stage works and maintain resident access to deliver the project on time and budget.
