Kirkham Sportsfield

About the Project

Stage 1 of the Kirkham Park precinct upgrade delivered two new rugby league fields, including an international and modified league size for junior competition and training. Works comprised extensive bulk earthworks, including 15,000cu.m of imported engineered fill and select topsoils.

Key project requirements included supply and incorporation of Gypsum into the surface, installation of sub-surface drainage, spread and levelling of specified turf underlay, supply and installation of 14,000m² Legend Couch rolled to consolidate, and a 12-week maintenance period.

The project also required a 100lux floodlight system, irrigation system, retaining walls fencing, field drainage, stormwater drainage, and landscaping.

Located adjacent to residential properties, schools and other active playfields, the project required significant community and stakeholder engagement, complex staging and careful deliveries management to minimise disruption.

WEM offered an alternative drainage layout and topsoil specification that delivered a 10% saving on the total contract sum. Cost savings were achieving by utilising the existing topsoil on-site and adding ameliorates. This approach eliminated the need to import expensive high-spec rootzone media.

From bare paddocks into two premium sporting fields for the Camden Rams RLFC, WEM successfully constructed the new playing fields at Kirkham Park in Elderslie in the Camden shire on time and under budget.
